Who we are

MODKIT.LIVE is part of modmore. For our own events we wanted an affordable but solid streaming and recording setup. Nothing off-the-shelf matched our requirements and budget, so we invested in a mobile video kit.

We now share that setup with other small businesses and organisations that need good video at a fair price. We’re honest: we’re budget-oriented and focus especially on small events and non-profits. We don’t offer Hollywood-level quality, but we do deliver a reliable, accessible solution for a full recording or social media content.

We offer our services for both commercial and non-commercial events, with a focus on the cultural sector and smaller organisations. Prices on the website are commercial rates. For non-commercial projects we’re happy to put together a custom quote.

Where we can help

MODKIT.LIVE operates from Leeuwarden, Friesland. We’re available for events throughout Friesland, Groningen and surrounding regions in the north of the Netherlands. Whether you’re in Leeuwarden, Groningen, Drachten, Sneek or elsewhere in the region, we’re happy to come to your venue.

We don’t rule out longer distances. For the right project we’re willing to travel further. Contact us to discuss what’s possible.

What we offer

We offer real-time video recording and live streaming services for indoor events. Our mobile studio includes multiple cameras, live switching and streaming capabilities.

Included: video recording equipment, cameras, tripods and various mounting options, real-time video production, streaming setup and video operator(s). We can also work with your existing audio setup or connect to your mixer.

Not included: extensive audio equipment, lighting systems, projectors or screens, and an internet connection for the live stream. We can, for example, bring a set of wireless microphones or a small lighting kit.

Limits: our equipment is for indoor use only. We don't do outdoor events due to weather conditions (both rain and direct sunlight). Maximum distance from control desk to cameras: approx. 50 metres.

Technical details

Cameras

We use professional PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras with AI tracking: the OBSBOT Tail 2 and OBSBOT Tail Air.

The price-to-quality balance on these cameras is ideal and the image is comparable to PTZ cameras costing ten times more. They perform excellently in dark and dynamic lighting situations, can be remote-controlled and automatically track moving subjects. That lets us deliver a dynamic production with one operator.

• Tail 2: main camera with optical zoom (5× optical, 12× hybrid), 1/1.5″ CMOS, f/1.8–f/3.0, up to 4K60 record, 1080p60 live. Often placed further back for wide shots and close-ups.
• Tail Air: compact, no optical zoom, 1/1.8″ CMOS, f/1.8, 4× digital zoom, up to 4K30 record, 1080p60 live. Great near the stage or clamp-mounted on truss.

Each camera connects with a single cable for power, data and remote control. Wireless is technically possible, but we choose stability over that.

Video switcher

We use a Røde RODECaster Video as the brain of the production: up to 6 inputs, overlays and scenes, 2 XLR/jack combo inputs, Røde wireless microphones and extra HDMI for confidence monitor or projector.

With internet it streams straight to YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, etc.; via USB or capture card you can drive OBS or vMix on a laptop.

Private local network

Our kit uses its own network: cameras with one cable each for video, power and control. That means we can set up quickly, always have a stable connection, and are independent of the venue's network.

We only depend on the venue for the internet connection, and we request a wired internet connection on site.

Recording & output

The mix is delivered as 1080p60 MP4. With the most comprehensive package you also receive per-camera ISO recordings (4K30 / 4K60) on an SSD you can keep.

Up to six inputs: extra cameras, presentation laptops or other sources. Get in touch if you need more angles.
